Good evening families,
We are off to another week of fantastic learning. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us for our Remembrance Day ceremony on Monday morning. The students were on their upmost best behaviour. Similarly, they have been very engaged in learning about the significance of Remembrance Day, poppies and the various stories that have come out of World War I and World War II. Our poppy art is proudly displayed in the front lobby of the school. Students have been working on establishing the horizon line and accurately placing images within their work based on the location of the horizon (i.e.: no floating houses or people!). Report cards were sent home last week and I hope you have taken time to read and review the comments. Parent/Teacher conferences are coming up next week on Thursday and Friday. Please book an appointment if you have not already done so. A few reminders for this week: 1. Appropriate clothing for outside: Now that the cold and snowy weather is here, please make sure to send your child with the appropriate clothing to be playing outside. Students should be wearing snow pants, boots, hats and mittens/gloves. It is also a good idea to pack a couple pairs of extra mitts/gloves and socks because students are outside several times a day and their wet mitts/gloves do not have appropriate time to dry. 2. Popcorn sales on Friday! Popcorn is available to purchase for $1.50 per bag this Friday. Students can choose from 7 different flavours. All orders must be submitted before 9:30 am. 3. Student Activity Fee: Outlined on the pink notice are a variety of activities that staff have begun to arrange for students this year. You will have noticed that a majority of the activities are at no charge and a few require a small fee. All Grade 1-3 students are asked for $20 to cover the costs of the activities that incur a small participation fee. Please sign and return the bottom portion of the pink notice along with the $20 so that staff can continue to make plans accordingly. If you are unable to contribute to the Student Activity Fee, please contact the office administration directly. 4. Homework: Last week's homework is of significant importance to our upcoming social studies lessons. It is important that all students complete and return the two page task in regards to their family origin and celebrations and traditions within in their family in order for authentic learning to be had. If you have difficulty completing either page of homework, please communicate with me. Thank you for your continued support towards the learning in and out of the classroom. It truly takes a team effort. Have a great week!
